College and Career Readiness

CVE focuses on career growth and development. While elementary students are exposed to many different career options they can work towards in their futures, each day they are learning valuable soft skills that will be vital to reaching future college and career goals.

Skills such as responsibility and respect are integral to attaining and retaining future careers. Maintaining a routine of regular student attendance and on-time arrival will also support students in creating positive work habits. Completing homework and arriving to school prepared are all tasks that will support the future success of our learners.

In a school-setting, students also learn the value of teamwork. Students will be able to recognize their own strengths and unique skills, as well as the gifts of other students. When students utilize and appreciate each other's strengths and talents, they can synergize and create projects and ideas that may have not been able to develop on their own.

Each month I am able to visit classrooms to complete classroom lessons utilizing the research-based program Second Step. Second Step provides students with a common language and reviews such subjects as school readiness, empathy, compassion, calming down strong emotions, and problem-solving.

Starting in 3rd grade students will also have the opportunity to attend Career Cafes in which parent volunteers speak to students during lunch about their careers and their path to achieve their career goals.

4th grade students have also had the opportunity to learn more about the variety of educational paths students can take to reach their future goals. SV students who attend the Butler County Area Vocational-Technical school were able to visit our school to discuss their experiences of learning trades in high school. Over the years, CVE students also had the opportunity to visit colleges, including Slippery Rock University and Geneva College.

Choices and actions quickly turn into habits. It is my goal for all CVE students to create positive and helpful habits that will aid in supporting their individual future goals and enable them to become productive and contributing citizens.
