SMALLab

The SMALLab

SMALLab, situated multimedia arts learning lab, is an embodied learning environment.  The SMALLab uses motion-capture technology that tracks student’s movements.  This creates a 3D environment that students can manipulate promoting an immersive, collaborative, kinetic, and interactive space.   Learning within the SMALLab environment is student-centered and allows for collaborative discussions about their instruction.

Teachers have all been trained in using the SMALLab and are starting to learn how to customize the games to support what the students are learning in the classroom. New games are being added and future training will take place to enable our teachers to continue to use the SMALLab to enrich and enhance the curriculum that they teach. Teachers have begun to schedule recurring times using Outlook to be sure that their students will use the SMALLab on a regular basis. They will be bringing their class to the SMALLab once a week to allow their students to experience embodied learning!
